Following on from our latest application looking at H2O2 sterilization for cleanrooms and laboratories, this week we’re taking a look at the regulations for IVF incubator monitoring and how to protect embryos using an independent, wireless, temperature monitoring systems.

Incubator temperatures are typically set at 98.6 °F (37°C) to mimic body temperature, however in a recent study “temperatures differed significantly among top, middle and bottom shelves and between the front and back shelve compartments.” Any temperature fluctuations can be detrimental to the fertilization of the embryos as “prolonged exposure of cultures to temperatures other than optimal 37C (98.6F) reduces the ability of fertilization and nullifies… subsequent achievement of pregnancy.” and so whilst incubators have their own monitoring capabilities, national regulatory authorities recommend that laboratories should implement a secondary independent monitoring system for each incubator to ensure the safety of embryos and ensure regulatory compliance.

Always ask for a signal strength test

Typical wireless systems using independent radio technology have wireless radio ranges of around 328 ft; whereas Hanwell wireless technology using Hanwell Pro or Hanwell IceSpy line of sight can reach up to 10,000 ft.
